Florent, what stands out for you in the 2025 harvest ?
“If there is one word to sum it up, it would be serenity. The summer passed without any major weather disruptions, allowing the grapes to ripen calmly, although the high temperatures in August accelerated the ripening and led to an earlier start to the harvest: from August 20 in our Cumières vineyard, and from August 21 for our other plots and those of our partner growers.
The grapes show a high level of quality, with excellent health throughout the vineyard. The clusters were often smaller than in previous years, but perfectly concentrated, and very little sorting was needed in the vineyard or at the press: the grapes arriving for pressing were flawless.
This was particularly true for the Pinot Noir and Meunier, but also for the Chardonnay, where sugar levels were high, the berries fully ripe, and the grapes bursting with aromas… All the conditions are in place for the 2025 harvest to be especially promising for the wines to come.”
How is the harvest organized each year at Champagne Boizel?
“We are a small team, and everyone is fully engaged. Each person knows exactly what to do and takes on their responsibilities year after year, which allows for real fluidity during this particularly intense period when quick reactions are essential. The harvest represents the culmination of the entire growing season, combining both emotion and excitement.
It is also a very convivial time: I make a point of visiting the cellars morning and evening, and spend the rest of the day out in the vineyard, at the presses, and in the plots. Over these ten or so days, I travel across the vineyard, meet with our partners, and connect with all the players in the Champagne ecosystem—growers, brokers, and colleagues from other houses. It is one of the most collaborative times of the year.
It is also when we begin to see the first signs of the vintage, and there is a certain magic in observing its evolution—from what we saw in the vineyard to what arrives at the presses, tasting the juices and musts, and immediately forming an idea of the vintage’s quality. And 2025 promises to be an excellent year!”
