Champagne region placed on UNESCO world heritage list

Tuesday 7 July 2015

The inclusion of « Coteaux, Maisons et Caves de Champagne » (‘Vineyard slopes, Champagne Houses and Champagne cellars’) as a cultural landscape on the World Heritage List of the UNESCO has been confirmed this weekend in Bonn (Germany).

This inclusion concerns 3 sites:

•  The Avenue de Champagne, and underground cellars, including Boizel’s

•  The Saint Nicaise hill in Reims, with the impressive network of cellars and ‘Crayères’ (Gallo-Roman chalk pits) that lie under this hill

•  The historic vineyard around Epernay, from Cumières to Mareuil-sur-Aÿ.
